OPPORTUNITIES IN NIGERIA
GREATER PORT HARCOURT CITY DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY
INVESTMENT FORUM
International Conference Centre, Durban
10 September 2010
The eThekwini City Council in Durban and the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority in Nigeria invite you to an Investment Forum to showcase opportunities in the GPHCDA New City development in Port Harcourt, the capital of Nigeria’s oil producing industry. The Forum forms part of a growing relationship between the two cities.
Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, is one of Nigeria’s fastest growing cities. It situated at the heart of the country’s oil industry and is serviced by two sea ports and two airports, one an international airport. A Masterplan for a New City to be developed alongside the existing urban areas is in place and investors and financiers are being sought for the implementation of the plan.
The First Phase of the project is moving ahead in 2010 with technical evaluation under way, tenders being advertised and bidders being canvassed, with the award of contracts due to begin during the last quarter for Bulk Infrastructure, Interim Services and Real Estate Development for Phase 1A of the project.
A high-level team from Rivers State and the GPHCDA, including the Administrator, Mrs Ale Cookey-Gam, will be in South Africa in September to speak to South African investors and suppliers of goods and services. Their aim is to interest companies in this ambitious project, which has the full backing of the State Government. A number of South African companies are involved in the preparatory stages of the project and there is significant international interest in the opportunities the development presents.
Nigeria is Africa’s biggest market and a key investment destination. Many South African companies have already invested in the country in a diversity of sectors. The SA-Nigeria Binational Commission underpins the relationship at a political level, while bilateral Chambers of Commerce exist in both countries.
This is an opportunity to meet the people driving the project and find out about potentially lucrative contracts and opportunities in this exciting new development.
Speakers include Durban Mayor, Hon Obed Mlaba, top officials of the GPHDA, and Arcus Gibb, which is preparing the engineering design drawings for the New City infrastructure.
