New West African Flight Schedule for the Oil & Gas Industry Regional Flight Solutions being developed for SA Based Companies with SAOGA. South African company, Runway Asset Management (RAM) has announced that the commercialization of their charter operations in West Africa will allow oil industry participants to more easily access Luanda, Pointe Noire, Port Gentil, Libreville, Sao Tome, Doula and Port Harcourt on dedicated flights.

·         In West Africa RAM currently operates four (4) weekly charter flights between Luanda and Port Harcourt, with connections in Pointe Noire, Port Gentil and Douala for a leading oilfield services company.

·         In the Republic of Congo, RAM and its flight operations partner Naturelink operate domestic flights for Trans Air Congo between Pointe Noire and Brazzaville.

·         RAM is also implementing a twice daily domestic schedule between Libreville and Port Gentil for an airline in Gabon and will be operating weekly flights between Libreville and Sao Tome from March 2010.

·         Ad-hoc charter requirements are also managed out of Libreville, Pointe Noire and Port Gentil.

·         On the East coast of Africa, RAM started providing flight services for an airline in Dar Es Salaam in December 2009, doing a range of domestic routes. RAM plans to build routes with the operator into the developing oil fields in Central Africa and Mwanza and Mtwara in particular.

Schedule and booking information for all the operations can be obtained from www.regionair.aero

RAM is also actively examining the feasibility of adding :

1.       Flights out of Cape Town & Walvis Bay to Luanda, thus connecting to the existing route all the way up the coast to Port Harcourt.

2.       The development of a scheduled service from Douala to Malabo and onwards to Lagos, Accra and Takoradi.   Flights between Douala and Njamena are also under discussion with a partner in Cameroon.

3.       The development of direct services from Johannesburg to Beira and Mtwara; and Johannesburg to Mwanza.

According to RAM Commercial Director, David Gibson, “The development of flight connections for South African oil & gas exploration, services and supplier companies wanting to expand their operations into the lucrative West African market is a key focus.

After meeting a lot of Oil & Gas industry people based in South Africa, while travelling around Africa, we have been surprised by how little coordinated action there is by the industry as far as flights are concerned. We think there are a number of ways of cutting the cost of flights by using existing services more efficiently, developing new routes or proactively expanding frequency of service or tailoring schedules by consolidating demand and generally making travel in Africa less of a hassle. With this in mind we recently initiated contact with SAOGA.”

Gibson adds “After receiving a very positive reception from SAOGA , we are now looking at working with CEO, Warwick Blythe to understand SA based company’s needs and deliver on their requirements. This will include regular press releases on new flight services introduced, the publishing of schedules for all of our operations on the RegionAir website and information sessions in Cape Town.
