Saldanha Bay Fabrication Facility

The Saldanha fabrication site was established in the late 1980′s to fabricate and construct the 14 500 tonne fixed leg platform jacket for the FA Platform Project located off Mossel Bay, South Africa. In 2007 the fabrication facility in the Port of Saldanha Bay was substantially upgraded by FerroMarine AFRICA (a subsidiary of Man Ferrostaal) to service the needs of large scale fabrication projects for the Oil & Gas industry.  The facility is operated by GrinakerLTA, one of South Africa's leading engineering companies.  

The upgraded fabrication facility has 5 000 tonnes per annum of fabrication capacity and focuses on the fabrication and construction of jackets, process and services topside modules, decks, booms, bridges and sub sea infrastructure.  The current facility includes:

  • Fabrication centre yard area (220 000m2)
  • High bay fabrication workshop with 25 and 40 tonne capacity gantry cranes (5000 m2)
  • Blasting and priming workshop (510 m2)
  • Electrical and instrumentation workshop
  • Material warehouses
  • Customs Control and Bonded Warehouses (1 000 m2)
  • 35m Load out quay (8m draft)
  • High mast flood lighting
  • Medical and First Aid facilities
  • Assembly and Lay down Area
  • Cutting and profiling building
  • Rigging store
  • Rolling building
  • Heavy pile welding line
