The South African Oil & Gas Alliance (SAOGA) is pleased to invite industry stakeholders to participate in an exclusive site visit and strategic industry engagement in Richards Bay, on 15 September 2026, bringing together key stakeholders involved in the development of the region's emerging energy and industrial infrastructure.
This engagement provides an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ), Zululand Energy Terminal (ZET) and the Port of Richards Bay, while engaging with the organisations responsible for these strategically important developments.
The programme is expected to provide an overview and discussion around:
Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ)
Gain insight into the RBIDZ's strategic mandate, current industrial development and its positioning as a major investment, manufacturing and energy hub.
Zululand Energy Terminal (ZET)
Understand the proposed LNG import and regasification development, its strategic role in South Africa's future gas supply and how it interfaces with the broader Richards Bay industrial ecosystem.
Port of Richards Bay
Hear directly from the Port on its strategic role, infrastructure and future development considerations in supporting energy, LNG and industrial activities.
The Emerging Gas Infrastructure Value Chain
Explore the relationship between the ZET, Port of Richards Bay and RBIDZ, including the planned infrastructure required to move natural gas from the terminal towards industrial users.
On-Site Engagement
Subject to access and operational requirements, the site visit will provide an opportunity to view the Port, RBIDZ and ZET development areas from appropriate vantage points, while receiving commentary from the relevant stakeholders on current and planned infrastructure.
Given the potential for construction activity within certain areas, the visit will also provide an opportunity to understand the interface between existing infrastructure, planned developments and future project requirements.
This engagement is particularly relevant for companies looking to understand and position themselves within the emerging South African gas and energy infrastructure value chain.
Participants will have an opportunity to:

RSVPs for this Networking INDUSTRY SITE VISIT to Explore Richards Bay’s IDZ will be dealt with on a first-come first-serve basis, with preference given to members.
SAOGA's Networking INDUSTRY SITE VISIT are principally aimed at helping people in industry to network in an informal environment. Registration are scheduled from 8h00-09h00 and typically run as follows: Guests arrive between 8h00 and 9h00 and meet over coffee. At 9h00 the speaker is introduced and generally talks for about 80mins followed by 10-15 minutes of questions and discussion. Once this is done the Site Visit of Explore Richards Bay’s IDZ and Emerging Energy & Industrial Hub will take place. People generally depart between 14h00 and 14h30.
